Nigel Twiston-Davies – My Runners 18th and 19th February 2017

Nigel Twiston-Davies Weekly Column

The yard had a good Saturday last week with the likes of Ballyandy, Flying Angel, and Templehills all winning as well as a fistfull of places, and after a chat with the maestro this morning we may be in for a winner or two this Saturday as well.

Nigel’s Charity Bet

Blaklion 3.15pm Haydock – 9/2 Best Odds Guaranteed

A £50 win bet will be placed with any returns being donated to the Injured Jockeys Fund.

Saturday runners:

Tintern Theatre  1.15pm Ascot

“In all honesty he does look as if he could be a bit outclassed by one or two of these, but I want to give him another run before he heads off to Sandown for the EBF Final next month and this looks as suitable a contest as any. He won’t disgrace himself and may yet pick up some place prize money with a bit of luck”.

Templeross 3.00pm Ascot

“At the moment it looks as if he may even go off favourite for this valuable contest but I can understand why, he is a lovely horse and we think a lot of him at home. He is in great form of late and was anything but disgraced last time when second to Modus at Kempton, and an extra three pounds may not be enough to stop him here – I am certainly hopeful of a huge run”.

Blaklion 3,15pm Haydock

“He is improving race on race and needs to win or do really well here to justify my faith in him as a legitimate Grand National sort. I am hoping he can prove himself to be up to it despite the burden of top weight and I am very keen on his chances today. I will be devastated if he doesn’t put up a bold showing here at the very least”.

Ballyarthur 3.50pm Haydock

“I like this seven-year-old an awful lot and could not have been any happier with him last time out when he won with a bit in hand at Leicester by nine lengths. As things stand he is still on target for the Albert Bartlett at Cheltenham in March, and I am expecting a big (hopefully winning) run this afternoon before he is booked in for Prestbury Park.”

Sunday Runners:

West Torr 2.20pm Ffos Las

“He has rather lost his way of late after winning here in June and I am hoping a return to this track may rekindle his efforts. I may be clutching at straws but we have to try everything to get hm back to his best”.

Allthegear No Idea 2.50pm Ffos Las

“I really like him to be honest but he ran too freely for his own good last time out over three miles at Bangor and that effectively ended his chances. The drop back in trip to two miles on soft going could see plenty of improvement and I am fully expecting a much better effort today”.

Little Jon 3.50pm Ffos Las

“He hasn’t been anywhere near to his best for some reason so far this season but has come down the weights accordingly and showed a spark of his old self when third to Brandon Hill last time out at Newbury, less than four lengths off the winner. He is more than capable of scoring off this weight in this company, so fingers crossed for a better effort.”
