As we are now in the heat of the Flat season proper, it may be no surprise that Willie Mullins doesn’t have a lot of winners, but the master of Closutton had two winners at Royal Ascot last week. He has one runner at Ballinrobe on Monday – his only entry of the week in Ireland at present – so she has to be of interest.
The horse in question is Lot Of Joy, who will run in the closing fillies’ handicap over 1m5f at Ballinrobe on Monday, and it certainly looks like a very competitive race so she should be a decent enough price. Seamie Heffernan is booked for the ride and he is more than capable.
Drawn in stall seven, the seven-year-old daughter of Camelot will have a nice berth, and she was last seen finishing fourth of six behind stablemate Jade De Grugy in the Mares’ Champion Hurdle at the Punchestown Festival.
The dual-purpose performer has won three times over hurdles and won twice on the Flat in France in her early days. She is yet to win on the Flat for Mullins but has ran well in some of the best handicaps around, including a close third in the Irish Cesarewitch in 2022 and a close third in the Ragusa at the Curragh last summer off 88.
Now running from a 4lb lower mark (84), she should be very competitive back on the Flat and the few showers forecast for Sunday and Monday will do her cause no harm at all. She may prove tricky for win purposes but she could be a solid each-way bet.
