William Haggas sends one runner on the 400-mile round trip to Catterick 🚛

William Haggas on Warren Hill at Newmarket

Newmarket to Catterick is a significant journey and William Haggas sends just one runner on the trip to North Yorkshire on Monday. Haggas had just six runners at the track last season and came away with three winners. This gave him a very healthy strike-rate of 50 per cent. Just his second runner there so far this year, Monday’s runner will be looking to get Haggas on the board for the season at Catterick. 3.20 Catterick

Opera Legend has had two starts so far and made his debut at Chelmsford in September, finishing fifth of nine runners. He did get a bump at the start of that race which wouldn’t have helped and he raced a little too keenly. Despite being well held, he kept on well in the final furlong and showed enough to suggest he’d be capable of winning races in the future.

The heavy ground at Redcar next time didn’t appear to suit, when filling the fourth spot. Catterick’s official going description is currently good to soft and that should be much more suitable on his first start at three. His sister won at this distance and he’s related to winners between 5f and 1m4f. This is his first start since a gelding operation in the winter and his mind should now be fully on the job at hand.

William Haggas’ other runner at Catterick this season failed to get the job done but if Novel Legend can do the business here, the trainer’s 50 per cent strike-rate from last season can be reinstated for the current campaign.
