It has been yet another week to remember for leading horse racing owner JP McManus. The great man hails from County Limerick in Ireland and if Gaelic Sports is something you are not familiar with, then I suggest giving it a watch.
Limerick won their fourth hurling All Ireland in five years last Sunday, defeating Kilkenny in what was an absolute thriller. JP McManus has invested heavily into Limerick GAA for decades so these are the glory years for him and for Limerick supporters.
Moving back to the world of horses, McManus interestingly has just one runner on Friday at Cork Racecourse. Can this horse cap off what has been a fantastic week for one of Britain and Ireland’s most loved owners?
McManus’ sole runner across Britain and Ireland on Friday runs over a mile on the Flat at Cork (7.45). Trained by Joseph O’Brien, Good Heavens has a very big opportunity in the Declan Nurney Plays Live After Racing Median Auction race.
Just the four runners are set to go to post for this contest, but the likely favourite arrives here off the back of a good second at Killarney, only beaten off by a head or so there 11 days ago by Shark Bay when hitting a low of 1.05 in running.
His sole win came over this trip at Leopardstown last October, but the worrying thing could be his overall attitude in a finish. Beaten at in running odds of 1.05, 1.06 and 1.28 already in his low mileage career, let’s hope that doesn’t become a trend.
On the form book, he should be winning this race doing handstands. Best of luck if you have a play.
