There’s an added aspect of intrigue to Ludlow‘s meeting on Wednesday as there’s one particularly interesting runner. The horse in question is a French raider that’s being sent on an 851-mile round trip from Avilly-Saint-Léonard in northern France. There’s plenty to like about this horse’s chances and it’s a long way to come. Surely connections will be seeking maximum compensation here. Kundaline (4-5, bet365) has had four starts over hurdles and they’ve all come at Auteuil, two of which have been in Listed company. This filly is trained by Noel George, who is the son of established trainer Tom George, and Amanda Zetterholm. Her form so far suggests she should be capable of winning this.
George and Zetterholm have been in eye-catchingly good form in recent weeks. The pair have had five winners from their nine runners in the last fortnight, giving them a 56 per cent strike-rate. They are yet to have a runner in Britain and Kundaline will be their first.
It’s also interesting that native Briton James Reveley is coming over to take the ride. Reveley has been based in France for some time now but did begin his career over here. He has ridden a total of 342 winners in Britain so he certainly knows his way around.
Not all French horses are suited by our style of racing but that risk is fairly low. This certainly isn’t the deepest of races and the significant drop in grade is a huge positive. It would be no surprise whatsoever to see her get off the mark here.
