Trainer who is unbeaten this year sends one 25-1 runner to Lingfield on Saturday

Trainer Lydia Richards has got 2024 off to an amazing start with two winners from two runners saddled. Both of those runners happened to race here at Lingfield Park, with Shalfa winning at 11-2 and Capstan winning at 4-1, both on the 4th of January. Richards hasn’t had a runner since then but it has to be interesting that she will have a sole representative at the track on Saturday and he is a big price! The horse in question runs in the finale, a competitive handicap just shy of two miles, and that is Smith who will be ridden by David Probert. At first glance, the horse is a massive price on the pick of his form because he actually won this race two years ago at odds of 5-2.

Now only 1lb higher than when successful in that contest, he won off a mark of 67 last February and is now 3lb lower in the weights. While he didn’t set the world alight in his two starts since an absence in December, not much was expected of him in an apprentice handicap here last month.

There is every chance that connections have been targeting this race for a long time, and if that’s the case, then the 25-1 will not last for long and he could go off a lot shorter.
