Trainer travels 574-mile round trip to Fontwell with first ever runners there

Fontwell Racecourse

Having held a trainers licence since the 1988/89 season, one could be forgiven for thinking that Micky Hammond would have had runners at every track in the country. That’s true in the main but Fontwell is a track he is yet to visit, with two runners making the 574-mile round trip on Sunday.

Hereford and Naas also race on Sunday, with a top quality card at the latter, including both a Grade 2 and Grade 3 contests. We have free horse racing tips for all three cards on the site. With just over two weeks until the Cheltenham Festival, it’s a great time to take advantage of the free bets we have on offer.

2.10 Fontwell – Fontwell Glen Scotia Single Malt Handicap Chase

Placed twice off this mark in 2020, High Noon was too keen on his return to action over a longer trip. The step down to this distance should help him, as will any further drying of the ground. He is ten pounds above his sole winning mark so this demands more but it is a weak enough contest so at a double figure price, he is deserving of at least some each way respect.

If you back any of our selections you can watch them live on the free Racing Post app or racingpost.com. Simply log in to one of your bookmaker accounts and click ‘Watch live’ on the racecards.

3.10 Fontwell – Fontwell Loch Lomand Whiskies National Spirit Hurdle

A hugely competitive contest despite the small field. Cornerstone Lad has not managed to quite get back to the form of his Fighting Fifth win in 2019, unable to make the transition to fences of late. He may enjoy the return to the smaller obstacles here and an official mark of 155 would see him level with Brewinupastorm and behind only McFabulous on the handicapper’s ratings.
