Trainer to watch: Why you should follow Nicky Henderson’s runners this week 🔎

Sandown - Nicky Henderson

Nicky Henderson is hitting form at the right time and he landed a big double at Cheltenham on Sunday. Jonbon made a winning start to the season and Iberico Lord won the £100,000 Greatwood Handicap Hurdle. There’s loads of exciting racing to look forward to this week and Henderson could be the man to follow. Paul Nicholls was our trainer to follow last week and he claimed victory in the Paddy Power Gold Cup with Stage Star. Tuesday and Wednesday

The Lambourn-based trainer has just the one entry at Hereford on Tuesday and it’s definitely an interesting one. Aston Martini was an easy winner on her debut in a bumper at Southwell in June and connections have found her an easy task on hurdles debut. Henderson has a healthy strike-rate of 24 per cent at Hereford over the last five seasons.

Warwick is a track which Henderson often targets and Mill Green is set to run in the veterans’ race. He will be joined by interesting bumper debutante, Either Or on Wednesday.

Wincanton

Nicky Henderson is looking to take on title rival Paul Nicholls in his own backyard on Thursday and has six entries at the West Country track. Joyeuse is the most eye-catching of those entries, as the French import’s dam is a half-sister to the top-class Epatante.

Highlight of the Week

The mighty Shishkin is set to return at the weekend which is definitely worth looking forward to. The ground will determine whether it’s the Grade 1 Betfair Chase up at Haydock  or the Grade 2 1965 Chase at Ascot. Either way, he’ll be expected to put in a big effort on his seasonal reappearance.
