Top Irish jockey travels all the way to Plumpton for one ride on Sunday ✈️

The feature race of the day on Sunday at Plumpton Racecourse is of course the rescheduled Sussex National. Running at 3.25pm, just the eight runners are set to go to post but it promises to be a very competitive affair.

The rejuvenated Slate House is seeking a hat trick of wins for Joe Tizzard but it has to be very interesting that a top Irish jockey travels all the way to Plumpton for just one ride. Surely, that has to be close to a tip in itself?

3.25 Plumpton

The horse in question is the top weight Us And Them, who is set to be partnered by top Irish rider JJ Slevin. The number one rider for Joseph O’Brien over jumps, Slevin is a cracking jockey but he will also be familiar with this horse.

Now trained by Alan Jones, Us And Them was formerly trained by O’Brien and was twice placed at the Cheltenham Festival. He finished second in the Arkle and as a matter of fact finished runner up four times in Grade 1 company in total.

Things seemed to spiral downhill for him after the Arkle second. He is now a 145 rated chaser but he is having his first run for his new handler Jones in this contest. Maybe the change of scenery can bring him back to life?

O’Brien cited that he will be concentrating more on the flat rather than the jumps in time to come. That is probably no shock given the family history and where the money lies. Could Us And Them win this big handicap? If he recaptures anywhere near his best form, he has a big chance.
