Tony Martin runner with form figures 03F/689 smashed in at Tipperary

Le Richebourg winning at Tipperary

Tony Martin would not exactly be the most popular Irish trainer around, that is for sure. He is a very good trainer but has often been accused of pulling off unsavoury coups and has also been fined for holding horses back in races.

There are very few in the country who are able to pull off a masterstroke like he can and interestingly a runner of his has been smashed off the boards for success at Tipperary on Sunday.

We are by no means telling you to back this horse as it comes with obvious risks attached. We are just pointing out the gamble that is currently ongoing and then you can make up your own mind after that.

4.05 Tipperary

Running in this novice chase, the horse that has been subjected to significant market support is La Tektor. The ten-year-old gelding has been backed from 15-2 into 2-1 in places, although at the time of writing this piece 7-2 can be found with bet365.

La Tektor has not been seen since finishing 9th of 20 runners at Leopardstown last December. He was sent off the 4-1 favourite for the handicap chase and was badly hampered when trying to make his challenge.

Rated 116 over fences, he is second best here at the weights. The Cathal Byrnes-trained Alpine Cobra is top-rated but the lightly-raced chaser Roi De Dubai is the horse that they all have to beat after a recent second at Wexford.

This is a considerable gamble on the Martin runner. He doesn’t have a prolific strike-rate at all these days but when the money is down it does strike fear into the bookmakers.
