Tom Scudamore travels all the way to Sedgefield for one ride for Irish trainer 🚗

Tom Scudamore has had just 25 rides at Sedgefield in the last five seasons. That’s no real surprise for a jockey based in the south west. This does however mean it could be significant that he makes the long journey up to County Durham for just one ride on Tuesday. It’s also worth noting that he takes the ride on an Irish raider hailing from the John McConnell yard. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

1.25 Sedgefield

Champagnesocialist is Scudamore’s sole ride and it isn’t the mare’s first foray into Britain. John McConnell’s mare finished second to a fellow Irish raider in a Musselburgh bumper back in January. She finished five lengths behind the winner who won a competitive handicap at the same track by 13 lengths when last seen. The sole raider here, she only has the home team to contend with.

An experienced bumper horse, she has had five bumper starts and won the last of those by 19 lengths at Downpatrick. It was an impressive performance despite the weakness of the form. Perhaps more impressive, her first two starts for T J Taaffe resulted in second-place finishes behind Chemical Energy and Grangee. These efforts resulted in the switch to the McConnell yard.

Her hurdles debut at Tramore last month was solid enough, finishing second by two-and-a-quarter lengths. The winner was well supported in the market and Champagnesocialist was 24 lengths ahead of the third. It seems as if she potentially bumped into one last time and looks less likely to do so here. You’re not likely to get a very good price on this horse but you can certainly see why Tom Scudamore is making the trip. Yet another successful John McConnell raid could be on the cards here.
