Thursday racing: Patrick Mullins at Market Rasen and a long distance traveller at Ayr

Patrick Mullins heads to Market Rasen to ride his own horse on Thursday and the horse in question will be very popular in the betting. It’s notable that Hampshire-based trainer Ralph Beckett sends one runner on the 758-mile round trip to Ayr and with the ground heavy, soft in places up there, horses with proven records on heavy ground are the way to go. Patrick Mullins heads to Market Rasen

Patrick Mullins has never ridden at Market Rasen before but that looks set to change on Thursday, as he heads there to ride his own horse for Dan Skelton. Whitewinewednesday was a winner over hurdles at Sedgefield for her previous trainer last time out and there should be more to come over fences.

Beckett sends one up to Ayr

Ayr hasn’t exactly been a happy hunting ground for Ralph Beckett in recent years but his representative Topwarrior returned to form with a good second on soft ground at Hamilton last time out. He’s due to go up 2lb for that effort so now is a good time to catch the son of Sergei Prokofiev.

Heavy ground horses at Ayr

There’s heavy in the official going description at Ayr so we’ve selected some horses with proven records in testing conditions. Annie Edson Taylor won on heavy ground at Hamilton on her penultimate start and wasn’t beaten far when second on soft at the same track next time. She’ll be in the mix once again.

Cisco Disco has a particularly good record on heavy ground, with two wins and second to his name in four starts, and he’s also a five-time course winner. Victorious when last seen, don’t rule him out here.

Aighear bolted up here on heavy ground over a couple of furlongs further on her most recent start and she’s officially 2lb well in, running off a 4lb penalty instead of her reassessed mark.
