Three horses that won’t get stuck in the mud at Nottingham on Wednesday ☔

Three horses in contention to win at Nottingham racecourse in 2019

Conditions are going to be testing at Nottingham on Wednesday and the current going description is heavy, soft in places. Some horses love getting their hooves into then ground whilst others can get stuck in the mud. With this in mind, we’ve picked out three runners at Nottingham that should cope with the conditions better than most. You can check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

3.12 Nottingham

Willingly (9-1, Paddy Power) is unbeaten in two starts on heavy ground. One of those wins came in decisive fashion at Ffos Las in August 2022. If you can thrive in heavy ground at Ffos Las, you can thrive in heavy ground anywhere. She was a fair third on stable debut at Hamilton last time out and it would appear that connections want to take advantage of the conditions here as she’s due to go down another pound in the weights.

4.12 Nottingham

Captain Corcoran (Paddy Power, 5-1) is unraced on heavy ground but he’s the only horse in this race to have won on soft. That should give him a massive advantage over his rivals as he’s far more likely to act in the conditions. Stella Barclay’s charge was a narrow second off this mark at Hamilton last time out and a repeat of that effort could be enough to take this.

5.12 Nottingham

Miss Dolly Rocker (11-2, bet365) was a solid second at Bath last time out on her only start on heavy ground. She was an easy winner of a novice over course and distance on soft back in July and clearly appreciates some cut in the ground. Roger Teal’s filly is the only horse in the race to have placed on heavy ground and there should be plenty more to come from this unexposed sort.
