‘This horse is banker material’ – JP McManus Cheltenham Festival Lucky 15

JP McManus is one of Jump racing’s biggest owners and he craves winners at the Cheltenham Festival. He’s also been in the news recently for getting his chequebook out and purchasing two ante-post favourites. Supreme Novices’ Hurdle

Mystical Power comes into the race with an unblemished record, having won a bumper and two starts over hurdles. He was an impressive winner of the Grade 2 Moscow Flyer Novice Hurdle at Punchestown when last seen, despite leaving room for improvement. A stronger pace at Cheltenham will help him to settle and his jumping is also likely to sharpen up.

Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase

Fact To File is banker material, on the evidence of his demolition job at the Dublin Racing Festival last time out. He made Gaelic Warrior look average that day and it was his power that impressed in particular. You can see why connections skipped hurdles with him as he’s athletic and scopey, making him an eye-catching jumper of fences.

Coral Cup

Sa Majeste is a handicapper’s nightmare and he could have any amount in hand here. The handicapper eventually allotted him a British mark of 140 which was total guess work. Potentially a graded horse running in a handicap, this completely unknown quantity really could be anything. Willie Mullins’ six-year-old has to have a massive chance here.

Mares’ Chase

Dinoblue is arguably the second best horse in the Grade 1 two-mile chase division. If that is the case, this race could be a penalty kick for the Willie Mullins-trained mare. Her pedigree suggests that trip will be fine and she’s very much the one they all have to beat.
