‘They know how to win here’ – 15-1 Charlie Appleby and William Buick treble 🥇

Newmarket‘s July course is a happy hunting ground for Charlie Appleby and William Buick. Appleby has an unbelievable strike-rate of 62 per cent at the track so far this season. Buick is also the July course’s top jockey with seven winners this year. It’s Day 2 of the July Festival on Friday and they’re worth looking out for. The pair combine with three runners on Friday and we’ve put them into a tasty treble. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

1.50 Newmarket

Tagabawa (7-2, William Hill) is one from two in handicaps, having bolted up on handicap debut at Kempton in April. He followed that up with a solid run in a Royal Ascot handicap last time out. The drop down to 1m2f may well suit on the evidence of that effort. After running well for a long way he weakened in the final furlong and should finish with more zest over this trip.

2.25 Newmarket

Star Of Mystery (1-3, Boylesports) won by half the track at Haydock on her penultimate start, pulling well clear to win by 11 lengths. She then won a Listed race without breaking sweat over course and distance last time out. The rivals she faces here are unlikely to be much of a challenge and this daughter of Kodiac looks pretty special.

4.10 Newmarket

Emperor’s Star (7-4, bet365) is an interesting newcomer for the Godolphin team. Appleby’s charge has a proper middle-distance pedigree and it makes sense that he starts off over 7f here. This colt wasn’t a cheap purchase at €300,000 but his dam is half-sister to a Group 1 winner. Plenty will be expected of this two-year-old on debut here.
