Top level racing comes thick and fast in the summer month’s and Epsom’s Derby Festival starts on Friday. As usual, the main event on Day 1 is the Oaks and we’re going to get a maximum field of nine. Charlie Appleby’s 1000 Guineas winner Desert Flower heads the market and a trio of very talented Ballydoyle fillies follow.
Liam Bramall has found one that may be a little overpriced ahead of the big race. Currently available at 20/1, she has a good chance of outrunning her odds. Take a look at our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Qilin Queen (20/1, bet365) remains lightly raced and she was a narrow winner of a Class 2 novice at Salisbury last season. Aidan O’Brien’s Butterfly Wings was back in third that day and she has since bolted up in maiden company.
Ed Walker’s filly then went up in grade and finished second in a Listed contest at Haydock and the winner went on to finish a close up fourth in the Poule d’Essai des Poulains. It’s therefore hard to knock the form and she has clearly improved as a three-year-old.
She bumped into a very impressive winner when third in a Listed contest over 1m2f at Newmarket on seasonal debut but stuck to her task well and shaped as if 1m4f would suit. Making all the running at Newbury next time, she got the better of Revoir, showing a good attitude in the process.
Obviously she will need to improve again in order to compete at this level but the daughter of Pinatubo has earned her place in the field. The yard is flying at the moment and that certainly bodes well for a big run from this overlooked filly.
