‘The trainer said he will win’ – Smaller yards’ Cheltenham Wednesday Lucky 15 🐎

The Cheltenham Festival isn’t just about the big names. There are plenty of races to be won and the smaller yards will have their part to play. We’ve picked out four live contenders on Day 2 of the Festival that hail from smaller yards and could get the job done. When combined, they form a tantalising Lucky 15. 1.30 Cheltenham

Good Land has made an excellent impression so far over hurdles. This includes winning a Grade 1 over 2m6f at Leopardstown in February. Barry Connell is doing very well with his small string and he thinks the world of this horse. He’ll probably need to improve on that to win here but he’s progressive and there should be more to come.

2.10 Cheltenham

The Real Whacker won the Grade 2 Dipper Novices’ Chase at Cheltenham in good style for Patrick Neville on New Year’s Day. Using Thunder Rock as a yardstick, that form wouldn’t be too far off Gerri Colombe’s Scilly Isles win. He also won over an extended three miles at Cheltenham back in November and this gives him a 66 per cent strike-rate at the track. Returning to three miles should suit and he’s an excellent jumper.

2.50 Cheltenham

Captain Conby has a real chance of giving Dusty Sheehy a first winner at Cheltenham. This horse ran a cracker when second in a good handicap at Punchestown last time out. The fact that he’s been put away since suggests connections are happy with his mark. He’s lightly raced and progressive so there should be further improvement to come.

5.30 Cheltenham

A Dream To Share won the Grade 2 bumper at the Dublin Racing Festival which Facile Vega won last year, before the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham. It was a smart performance from A Dream To Share, he won by almost three lengths, with some useful sorts in behind him. John Kiely’s gelding has been purchased by JP McManus since which suggests he’s a very talented animal.
