Horse racing is in Liam's blood and his biggest passion is jumps racing. He can often be found at his favourite tracks; Chepstow and Cheltenham in the Autumn when the National Hunt action kicks off. In his own words: "I'm often referred to as a walking form book, a trait which comes in handy from time to time. My proudest tipping success to date was landing a whopping 682-1 accumulator at Epsom."
Safer Gambling Week started on Monday 18th November and ends on Sunday 24th November. It’s an initiative from the gambling industry to promote safer gambling practices and provide punters and the wider public with important information. We need to have more conversations around safer gambling and this campaign is a way to push that important agenda.
We at MyRacing are strong supporters of the campaign and you can visit our responsible gambling page for some useful tips to stay safe, as well as links to some helpful resources if you are struggling.
The key aims
It’s vital that we normalise difficult conversations such as this and the only way to do so is to keep the conversation going. Safer Gambling Week aims to stimulate this through three key aims.
- Drive awareness on how to approach gambling more safely – questions to ask and behaviours to consider.
- Promote the available tools which inform and encourage people to gamble safely all year round.
- Provide sources of further advice and support
Helpful tips for safer gambling
- It’s important to consider what you can afford to lose. Setting budgets is a good way of controlling how much you spend. The deposit limit tool is a useful feature which can also help with this.
- Only bet when you’re in the right frame of mind to do so. Those in an emotional state or under the influence of alcohol are more likely to make rash betting decisions.
- Keeping track of how much you are spending is a good way of reflecting on your relationship to betting. Check your account history to keep of track of your settled and unsettled bets.
- Never chase your losses as that can lead to a negative spiral.
