‘The handicapper has given him a chance’ – 50/1, 25/1 and 14/1 ITV Outsiders

Saturday is going to be a busy day for the ITV team, as there will be 10 races televised live from three racecourses. Kelso and Newbury host the bulk of the action but there’s also one race from Bangor to look forward to. There are plenty of runners around the country and that means each-way opportunities. We’ve picked out three potentially overpriced outsiders and they include a four-time course winner at 50/1. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

1.30 Kelso

The Navigator (50/1, bet365) was in great form earlier on in the season and will definitely have appreciated his winter break. Dianne Sayer’s veteran won consecutive starts over course and distance in the autumn and has to be of interest on that evidence. Now rated just 2lb higher than his last winning mark, the handicapper has given him a chance here and a return to form can’t be ruled out.

1.50 Newbury

Kapitein Kool (14/1, bet365) will be well suited by the switch to handicaps and his form indicates that he should be competitive off a mark of 120. Seamus Mullins’ five-year-old did well to win narrowly under a penalty in novice company last time out and there could be loads more to come.

3.00 Newbury

Edith Pelham (25/1, bet365) is Fergal O’Brien’s second-string runner according to jockey bookings but there’s plenty to like about her chances. Useful in bumpers, she was a fair third on her first start over hurdles but didn’t appreciate the drop in trip after that. She managed to get off the mark over a similar trip at Southwell earlier this month and 114 is a workable mark.
