‘The handicap king returns’ – Dan Skelton’s hurdlers form 16-1 Tuesday double 👑

Dan Skelton made a huge impact with his handicap hurdlers at the Cheltenham Festival. The Warwickshire-based trainer won the two most prestigious handicap hurdles; the Coral Cup and the County Hurdle. Skelton has two runners in handicap hurdles at Wetherby on Tuesday which means the king is back and you wouldn’t want to rule out the double.

The Skelton brothers are also the top trainer and jockey at Wetherby so far this season. Their two handicap hurdle runners on Tuesday combine to form a 16-1 double. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

William of York’s (8-1, bet365) first two starts over hurdles were adequate enough, finishing sixth and seventh respectively. With some better jumping on debut, he may well have finished closer. He was too keen next time which didn’t help his cause. It’s been disappointing since, especially on handicap debut last time out.

Learning to settle will be key for this horse as when the penny drops, he’ll give himself the opportunity to compete. Time is on his side and he’s lightly raced so there should be plenty of improvement to come. If anyone can get his career back on track, it’ll be Dan Skelton.

Hartur D’Oudairies (10-11, William Hill) made a huge impression when winning comfortably at Warwick on hurdles debut in November 2021. He then disappointed at Cheltenham next time, when looking outpaced behind Datsalrightgino.

The gelding then missed almost a year and was a solid second on his comeback run at Exeter. A close second at Warwick last time out, the winner went on to finish fifth in the Boodles at Cheltenham. Skelton’s charge looks ready for a return to the winners’ enclosure.
