‘That price is unreal value’ – 50-1, 16-1 and 10-1 Punchestown outsiders on Wednesday 🚀☘️

Day 2 of the Punchestown Festival brings us three more Grade 1 races and plenty more exhilarating action. The feature is of course the Punchestown Gold Cup  and this year’s race looks to be a vintage renewal. Check out our free tips page where you will find content across all British and Irish racing every day. Without further ado, here are three outsiders whose chances aren’t reflected by their big prices.

5.20 Punchestown

There’s no way that Bardenstown Lad (10-1, William Hill) would be his current price if he was trained by Gordon Elliott or Willie Mullins. John McConnell’s gelding is improving with every start and will thrive on the decent ground. He was a good third in the Albert Bartlett at Cheltenham last time. To contextualise that form a little, he was 13 lengths clear of the seventh who subsequently won a Listed novice race at Perth.  This gelding looks to have a good each-way chance if he can progress again.

5.55 Punchestown

It’s strange to think that the Al Boum Photo (16-1, bet365) has been beaten in two Cheltenham Gold Cups since he won two in a row and is still only 10-years-old. His conservative racing schedule means he’s still fairly lightly raced having had only 16 starts over fences. There should still be some miles in his legs as a consequence. An unseasonably dry winter scuppered his trainer’s plans to get more runs into him before this year’s Cheltenham Gold Cup so he should be fresh. He’s the clear each-way play here at 16-1 and that price is unreal value.

6.30 Punchestown

Madmansgame (50-1, bet365) received a vote of confidence from his trainer before the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham which saw his price collapse shortly before the off. It was keenness which scuppered his chances of running a good race in the end and he was lit up by his stablemate who was also over-racing. Hopefully he’ll have learnt from that experience of the big occasion and settle better here. If he manages to do that he can run well as his trainer is confident he has the ability.
