Doncaster‘s St Leger Festival gets underway on Thursday and five of their eight races will be live on ITV. Legendary Irish trainer Jim Bolger sends a runner over to the Yorkshire track for the first time in at least five years and George Boughey & William Buick are a dangerous combination here. Waardah was last seen finishing third in the Lillie Langtry Stakes at Glorious Goodwood and she really wasn’t beaten far on that occasion. Danielle was last of the six runners in that race but if returning to the form of her Group 3 win at York before that, she would have a decent chance.
Fairy Glen was only beaten by half-a-length, despite finishing fifth in the Group 1 Prix Vicomtesse Vigier last time out. That looks like smart form so don’t rule her out. Consent was a Group 1 winner in France back in October but she has looked well below-par in two starts so far this term.
Prizeland was an impressive winner in Listed company last time out but is unproven over this trip. Floresta is an interesting outsider for Irish trainer Johnny Murtagh, whilst Nyra, Cameo and Ryka probably have more than a little bit to prove.
Jim Bolger is a legendary Irish trainer and it could be significant that he sends a runner to Doncaster on Thursday, having not had a runner there for at least five years. He does have a 25 per cent strike-rate however, with three winners from 12 previous runners. Sea Of Rain landed a Group 3 over a mile at the Curragh when last seen and should be in the mix with that in mind.
George Boughey and William Buick have a 43 per cent strike-rate when combining at Doncaster and that definitely bodes well for Mithaaly. The lightly raced juvenile was an impressive winner of a maiden when last seen and it will be interesting to see how he gets on in this valuable sales race.
