Higher Peckmoor Stables is set on the Dorset-Somerset border in the Seaborough Valley and is home to Jack Barber Racing. Jack doesn’t have a huge string of horses but he is incredibly shrewd and efficient with what he does have at his disposal.
He is well known on the point-to-point circuit but is a dab hand when he runs some of his horses under rules too. In the last five seasons he has saddled 28 winners and he usually delivers between five and nine winners a season.
Interestingly, he has been in red-hot form since Halloween, recording three winners from his five runners. They were all juicy prices too, winning at odds of 22-1, 9-1 and 13-2. Barber runs just one horse at Huntingdon on Tuesday and with the stable in such brilliant form, he has to be worth a second look.
Fenrir Binding will be having his first run for Jack Barber since leaving the Samuel Drinkwater team. The six-year-old son of Norse Dancer has shown very little in seven career runs to date but the change of scenery could do him the world of good.
In fairness, his last two efforts were a big improvement on what he had shown prior to that, a remote fifth at Exeter followed up by a fourth place finish at Southwell.
It must be noted that he travelled notably well over 2m7f at Exeter, tanking all over his rivals in third approaching the final bend. However, he made an awful mistake two from home and lost all chance after that.
Now 9lb lower in the weights here on first start for his new trainer, if he can recapture that form then he could take a lot of beating at what could be a decent price.
