FEARBY can take the lion’s share of the £150,000 on offer in this auction stakes. Ed Bethell’s charge hasn’t won since July but he has gone close in three Group races, most recently the Mill Reef at Newbury two weeks ago where he made most of the running and clung on for third. It is significant that Ryan Moore has been booked to ride, especially as he has never ridden for this trainer before.
TITLE had to settle for minor honours in two Pattern races after winning his maiden at Yarmouth in May. However, he was gelded during a summer break and looked better than ever when reappearing at Doncaster recently, as he travelled powerfully throughout and eased clear when David Egan asked for an effort. He wouldn’t need much more to follow up here.
MOTHER EARTH has produced a string of solid efforts this summer, including a win in the 1,000 Guineas over this course and distance and a second Group 1 victory at Deauville in August where she held off Sagamiyra. She was an unlucky loser in the Matron Stakes last time out and has a great chance of compensation here.
GREAT AMBASSADOR has thrived since joining Ed Walker and he can add another victory. He has scored three times since joining this yard and only narrowly failed to win the Ayr Gold Cup last time out. Ed Walker’s gelding did enough to see off the group on his side but couldn’t quite match Bielsa on the other rail.
Clive Cox has a couple of leading contenders in this, headed by ARATUS. The three-year-old has won all three starts this season and completed the hat-trick at Goodwood last month, where he held on from Escobar. He only had a neck in hand but he tends to idle when hitting the front and it is proving difficult for the handicapper to get his measure.
