3.10 Doncaster

The Listed Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle is a competitive affair but with all of these novices, some are open to plenty of improvement and one of those who could surprise a few is Donald McCain’s Chatshow Host. The mare is lightly raced for her age and didn’t show much in her first three career starts, but she improved an awful lot when second to Chosen Templar at Musselburgh in January, and she has the scope to improve again.

2.17 Kelso

The queen of Scotland, Lucinda Russell, has one that looks vastly overpriced in the Grade 2 novices’ hurdle, and that’s Choose A Copper. He handled these conditions when readily winning a Hexham novice hurdle on debut in October, and only found the hugely progressive Nab Wood (won again since) too good here when last seen. He’s capable of running a big race with conditions to suit.

3.40 Doncaster

Paul Nicholls is usually good for a Saturday winner or two, and one of his who looks vastly overpriced is Flash Collonges who runs in the 3m2f handicap chase. This horse won at Newbury over 2m7f last March and was in the process of running a huge race in the Scottish Grand National at Ayr in April when a faller. He needed the run when down the field at Ascot but he’s not to be underestimated.
