Our resident horse racing man Adrian Wall has always been an avid market watcher. He has spotted a pretty large ongoing gamble taking place at Punchestown Racecourse today. Fresh off the back of Classic success last week when landing the Epsom Oaks with Ezeliya under a brilliant Chris Hayes ride, it’s great to see the Dermot Weld team in terrific form and it looks like they might have another nice winner at Punchestown today if the market is correct.
Running in the closing bumper and backed from 12/1 into 9/4 favourite this morning, the unraced Passenger is a warm order for the contest. Finny Maguire will take the ride on the Invincible Spirit gelding, who has a lovely pedigree on paper and will have no problem with the trip that’s for sure.
Passenger was withdrawn from a Punchestown bumper on the 4th of May due to the ground. It was soft on that occasion so it looks like he wants better ground, and he has it today. Who knows how he will run but the money is certainly down.
Of the others, Richard O’Brien’s Base Of Fire is worth a mention. Owned by Simon Munir and Isaac Souede, he went well for a long way in a hot Navan bumper in November and is another who might be a better horse on decent ground after a break. Best of luck if you have a bet.
