Royal Ascot outsiders: Aidan O’Brien-trained Grade 1 winner is 33/1 on Day 1

Royal Ascot finally kicks off on Tuesday and Day 1 is arguably the best day of the meeting. There are no fewer than three Group 1 races to look forward to and some excellent handicaps. With so many runners declared, there will be loads of each-way opportunities to take advantage of. We’ve selected four outsiders at massive prices that may have snuck under the radar. Check out our free tips page where you will find a tip for every race across the five days of Royal Ascot.

3.05 Ascot

Arran (25/1, bet365) was victorious in a Newmarket maiden back in April and hasn’t been seen since. Subsequent winners Actor (12/1) and Al Qudra (14/1) were in behind him that day and are set to reoppose here. Paul & Oliver Cole’s colt shouldn’t be a bigger price than those two on that evidence and he’s entitled to take a big step forward.

3.45 Ascot

Kylian (66/1, Paddy Power) got within a length-and-a-half of favourite Big Evs when third in the Molecomb Stakes at Goodwood last summer. If you think that Big Evs is the most likely winner, it’s easy to make the case that Kylian is overpriced. He bolted up in a Listed race over 5f for Karl Burke last term and could surprise a few here.

4.25 Ascot

Unquestionable (33/1, bet365) was an excellent juvenile and was only a length behind Rosallion when second in the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere. Aidan O’Brien’s colt followed that up with victory in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf and appears to have been unfairly overlooked on that evidence. Significant improvement is expected from his run in the Irish Guineas and he could easily make the frame.

5.05 Ascot

Tenerife Sunshine (25/1, bet365) carries a 5lb penalty as a result of a recent success at Goodwood. Strong at the finish that day, the front two were clear of the rest and an extra 5lb shouldn’t be too problematic. Obviously he’ll need to prove his stamina over this marathon trip but so will most and he’s worth giving a go.
