Ascot Gold Cup (Thursday 22th June)

Lone Eagle (50-1, William Hill) ran a cracking trial for this race, when second in the Ormonde Stakes in testing ground at Chester last time out. That was a much better effort and he shaped as if this marathon test could suit. A narrow second in the Irish Derby two years ago, he has already proven himself capable of competing at the top level.

Edward VII Stakes (Friday 23th June)

Alder (20-1, Paddy Power) missed the Derby due to a bad scope. Donnacha O’Brien has earmarked this race as his next potential target and he has the ability to run a huge race. A staying on second in a rough renewal of the Dee Stakes when last seen, the step up to 1m4f should be right up his street. His sire won the Epsom and Irish Derbies and there’s little doubt there could be more to come over further.

Hardwicke Stakes (Saturday 24th June)

Changingoftheguard (14-1, Paddy Power) was a little disappointing at Chester on seasonal reappearance. It would be dangerous to read too much into that however. Aidan O’Brien’s horses have generally needed their first runs and significantly better is expected here. He won the Edward VII Stakes over course and distance here last season and he has to have a huge chance.
