Boodles Juvenile Handicap Hurdle

Hamsiyann has had just three starts so far and looks like a very interesting proposition for Irish trainer Tony Martin. Martin is certainly a shrewd operator and knows how to win handicaps at the Cheltenham Festival. This four-year-old isn’t guaranteed to get into the race but you’ll want to keep an eye on him if he does line up.

He made his debut over hurdles in a Grade 3 at Fairyhouse in December and he was always towards the rear of the field. It was a similar story at Leopardstown next time out and he wasn’t exactly given a hard time when finishing way down the field.

The son of Lope De Vega took a giant step forward when finishing second by just a couple of lengths at Ludlow on Wednesday. That was much more like it and it’s the kind of performance that could lead to the handicapper awarding him a high enough rating to get in.

We’re likely to see further substantial improvement if he makes it to Cheltenham and the best is almost certainly yet to come from him.
