Ralph Beckett is in good form at the moment and he tasted victory at Goodwood on Tuesday with the excellent Kinross. The Hampshire-based trainer is looking for more success on Thursday but will be looking further afield. He’s set to send one runner over to Galway on the the west coast of Ireland and it’s a substantial journey.
The horse in question is set to be Beckett’s second ever runner at Galway. It’s a 964-mile round trip and connections will be hoping for some compensation. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Dandy Alys (4-1, William Hill) goes for Beckett in a valuable Listed race over 7f. She clearly needed the run on her seasonal reappearance at Epsom in June, as she showed significant improvement at Carlisle next time. Only beaten by half-a-length into second, it was a solid performance in Listed company.
Ralph Beckett is in fine recent form and has a healthy strike-rate of 31 per cent in the last fortnight. His filly is no stranger to Ireland as she came over for a valuable sales race back in September. Beckett’s charge ran a cracker to finish third that day and wasn’t beaten by far. On top of that, she was only just denied in group 3 company at Newmarket last August.
Connections have managed to acquire the services of Ireland’s champion jockey, Colin Keane. He’s one of the best around and it’s a huge positive that he takes the ride. This looks like a particularly open race and there doesn’t appear to be an outstanding candidate, which means she should have every chance. If she can build on that latest effort, a big run could well be on the cards.
