Raider alert: Irish trainer to have first ever Aintree runner on Friday ⛴️

There’s a competitive meeting at Aintree on Friday evening and there’s just one Irish raider. Nigel Thomas Slevin sends one runner over from his County Meath base. He’s yet to have a runner at Aintree, despite having had 10 previous runners on these shores. This potential runner is set to be his first British runner of the current campaign also.

It’s a 434-mile round trip and connections will be looking for some compensation. The horse in question looks particularly interesting and it could go well. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

7.00 Aintree

Politicise has plenty of experience for a seven-year-old and is yet to win over the larger obstacles in nine starts. He came as close as you can get at Tipperary over 2m1f on his penultimate start, finishing second by a nose. On the verge of running a good race at Killarney last time, a shuddering mistake at the last spoiled his momentum and he would have been in the mix otherwise.

A two-time winner over hurdles, his last win came in a Grade B handicap for Adrian McGuiness back in September 2020. Slevin’s charge won his maiden hurdle over this trip at Killarney two months prior to his latest victory. This means a return to winning ways is long overdue.

It’s interesting that the horse stays this far as his Flat pedigree suggests he should be racing over much shorter distances. A repeat of his Tipperary effort would be enough to put him bang in there in this contest. That evidence fully suggests he’s capable of winning over fences and a big run could be on the cards.
