“Racing is not just a man’s game” – Thursday’s 89-1 lady jockey treble

Wolverhampton Racecourse

There was a lot of controversy surrounding Adam Wedge after his success aboard Secret Reprieve in the Welsh National. After his success, he was interviewed live on ITV. Unfortunately he muttered the words that racing was a “man’s sport”. We are pretty sure that he did not mean it in that context. He was simply buzzing after his huge success and wasn’t thinking clearly. Nonetheless, for a bit of craic, we have put together a lady riders treble for Thursday’s racing.

1.00 Lingfield

I assure you that Hollie Doyle is better than most of her male counterparts in the weighing room. She is top class and will take the ride on the Amy Murphy trained Book Of Secrets in this five runner handicap. Hollie rode this horse to victory two runs back over track and trip. She gave him a cracker of a ride on that occasion. He ran at Wolverhampton earlier this month and ran as well as could have been expected, beaten just over a length. Back at this venue, he has a massive chance.

2.40 Ludlow

Bridget Andrews will ride Robin Gold for the boss Dan Skelton in this handicap. She will have the burden of top weight but is the class horse in the race. This season has been brilliant for this horse who likes to be ridden with plenty of restraint, winning 4 handicaps in 5 starts this season. She was then a solid third in listed company 3 weeks ago. The step back up in distance will suit and she will find handicap company much easier.

3.50 Wincanton

Cyclop was a twenty length winner at Plumpton when last seen and gets to run off an unchanged mark. As a consequence, this looks like a guilt edged opportunity to gain another success. Lilly Pinchin is a terrific rider and this horse has his stable debut for Stan Sheppard here. Lilly has a lot of experience and has had a lot of success on this horse – they are a great partnership.
