Rachael Blackmore is a huge name on both sides of the Irish Sea and it’s always noteworthy when she comes over to ride in Britain. She hasn’t ridden at Cartmel for over five years but that’s set to change on Saturday. The Irish jockey is set to head over for three rides at the track and we’ve combined two of them into a tasty double, as two of the rides are for the legendary JP McManus. Horn Cape (4-1, bet365) was a little disappointing for Nicky Henderson but Ben Haslam has managed to change his fortunes. The six-year-old grey has won twice for his current yard, including off just a 3lb lower mark on his penultimate start. He was a little flat a Ffos Las last time out but the handicapper has dropped him 2lb for that effort. Every little helps in this game and we could see an improved performance from this gelding, especially with Blackmore doing the steering.
Celestial Horizon (10-1, bet365) was a useful performer for Joseph O’Brien, winning twice over hurdles for his previous trainer. JP McManus has since sent him to Ben Haslam and he’s yet to recover his form, despite the change of surroundings. The handicapper is responding accordingly however and it’s only a matter of time before he gets back on track. Now down to a mark of 120, he has to be on the verge of returning to form. His last win came off a mark of 127 in Ireland so this five-year-old possesses the ability to run a big race.
