Race of the day: the trends tell us Willie Mullins is the man to back at Thurles

The feature race of the day on Thursday is definitely the Racing TV Club Day Chase at Thurles. This Listed contest is run over 2m6f and a field of six has been declared. We’ve assessed the recent trends and they point to a Willie Mullins runner, who has already won the race before. Take a look at our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

Steer clear of outsiders

Outsiders don’t have the best of records in this race in recent years and the biggest price winner was Classic Getaway at 15/2 in 2023. He’s one of the contenders once again this year, as well as stablemate Appreciate It. Affordable Fury stands out the most with regards to this trend, as seven of the last 10 winners were favourites. Avoid Salvador Ziggy, Senecia and Tullybeg.

Class is king

Every winner in the last decade had a rating in excess of 150 and this doesn’t bode well once again for Salvador Ziggy, Senecia and Tullybeg. On top of that, nine of the last 10 winners had previously won at Grade 3 level or higher and current favourite Affordable Fury has failed to do so, despite finishing second in a Grade 1 last time out. That leaves us with the Willie Mullins duo.

Mullins for the win

Willie Mullins has won this race six times in the last 10 years so he’s the man to follow, rather unsurprisingly. Paul Townend will be on board Appreciate It, whilst Danny Mullins is set to take the ride on Classic Getaway.

Veterans tend to struggle

The oldest winners in the last decade were all nine and Appreciate It and Tullybeg could be worth ruling out on that evidence. Nine-year-olds have won the it five times recently and of the two in the field here, Classic Getaway is the more interesting.

Verdict

Classic Getaway has already won the race before and he has the most trends in his favour here. It’s difficult to see past Willie Mullins and Danny Mullins’ mount looks like the one to side with.
