Plumpton’s top trainer has runner smashed from 40-1 into 7-1 this morning 📉

There’s a substantial gamble underway at Plumpton on Tuesday. One runner in the opening race was available at a massive 40-1 on Monday but has seen its price collapse throughout the evening and into this morning. This is a pretty big move and it’s even more significant that the horse is trained by Gary Moore. Abingworth is the horse in question who is looking to shed his maiden tag. The four-year-old gelding by Kapgarde has had five career starts to date. Three of those came in bumpers where he finished second in the first of those starts. That effort showed plenty of promise and he was only two-and-a-half lengths behind the winner.

His next two efforts were disappointing however as he failed to capitalise on his debut promise. These two efforts resulted in heavy defeats by a combined distance of 78 lengths. Despite this, it’s far too early to write the horse off as bumpers are nothing more than an educational tool.

This gelding made life difficult for himself on hurdles debut by racing freely and getting himself detached before keeping on. Outpaced over just shy of two miles at Leicester last time out and shaped as if he’ll need a longer trip.

Stepping up to an extended 2m4f for the first time looks like it should be right up his alley and should facilitate some improvement. Plenty of progress needs to be made in order to feature here but this is certainly a positive step. The substantial market confidence is a little confusing as this looks like a trappy maiden hurdle but you simply cannot discount Gary Moore here at Plumpton.
