Paul Nicholls sends two horses on the 730-mile round trip to Kelso on Friday 😳

Based in Ditcheat way down in the south-west of England, it is no surprise that Paul Nicholls does not frequent Kelso Racecourse all that often. In the last five years, Nicholls has sent just 20 horses to the Scottish track but when he sends them there he means business. Of those 20, five have returned to the winners’ enclosure which is a healthy 25 per cent return.

4.05 Kelso

Flash Collonges won a handicap hurdle here at Kelso off a mark of 133 in March of 2021 and is now running off 130 over fences back in handicap company. He bumped into Thyme Hill at Exeter when last seen in November, a horse that went on the win the Grade 1 Kauto Star Novices’ Chase at Kempton by 15 lengths subsequently, to give the form a real nice boost. Nicholls wouldn’t be sending him all the way here for the fun of it so he is interesting.

4.35 Kelso

This looks like a penalty kick for Secret Investor in this open hunters’ chase. The son of Kayf Tara won without any fuss at Bangor just a week ago and this is another nice piece of placing by Nicholls. A pretty classy chaser on his day, he should have more than enough on ratings to see off his rivals and it would be no shock if it was a procession either. It’s a great opportunity for Charlie Sprake to have another winner on the boards.
