Patrick Mullins goes down to his lowest riding weight to ride one horse on Tuesday

The moment that everyone has been waiting for is finally upon us as the Cheltenham Festival is here. It’s Day 1 on Tuesday and there are seven excellent races to sink our teeth into. Patrick Mullins is going down to his lowest riding weight for one ride on Tuesday and that has to be noteworthy. Many will be intrigued and the horse in question represents a British yard so we’ll take a detailed look at his chances below. We’ll also provide free tips for every race at Cheltenham and our Day 1 tips are live now!

Princess Royal National Hunt Challenge Cup

Transmission is fancied by many in the 3m6f novice handicap and it’s easy to see why. All four of his runs so far this season have come at Cheltenham and he appears to be progressing well over fences. Mullins was on board when he won here back in November and the gelding was doing all his best work at the business end of the race, which bodes well now trying a marathon trip for the first time.

Second to Haiti Couleurs after that, he had to give his rival 2lb that day and now finds himself 4lb better off this time around. The son of Doyen jumped a little out to his right that day and that won’t help his cause, if continuing to do so.

You can check out our selection for this race by clicking here and some of the other major contenders include the aforementioned Haiti Couleurs and the Gavin Cromwell-trained Now Is The Hour. Further progress can’t be ruled out from Transmission here and Mullins has won two of the last three renewals of this race.
