Owen aims to end Royal Ascot on a high with 33-1 and 20-1 outsider tips

After four days of Royal Ascot, I’m very happy with how my week has gone. From twelve races I’ve tipped in, there’s been a 33-1 winner flanked by 40-1 and 25-1 places. That’s not a bad return given the competitive nature of the Royal meeting.

Saturday marks the final day of the Royal Ascot 2021 and it’s my chance to send off meeting in style. I’ve gone through the card, hunting for value propositions who can glide through the mud. At prices of 33-1 and 20-1, I believe they’re horrendously overpriced, and you can find all my analysis below!

2.30 Ascot – Chesham Stakes

One horse who has been in my tracker since his debut is WITHERING (33-1), who was an enormous eyecatcher at Lingfield last month. He was sent off at 50-1 and missed the break, turning into the straight with a mountain to climb.

Having to wait for room, he was given a reminder at the furlong pole and sprouted wings under hands and heels. Weaving through traffic, he went down by a nose to subsequent Windsor Castle entrant Bicep.

That was over six furlongs, and I’m excited to see what damage he can do over seven. That experience should have brought him on plenty and he now wears the tongue-tie in the colours of his new owner. He does need to improve exponentially from his debut on the bare figures, but it’s easy to see where that progress can come from. David Egan takes over and at 33-1, I think he’s grossly underestimated.

3.05 Ascot – Jersey Stakes

Winning his debut at Haydock last July, RHYTHM MASTER (33-1) subsequently placed in a pair of pattern races as a juvenile. Third to Campanelle in the Prix Morny on his next start, a slow start didn’t help his case when third in the Mill Reef at Newbury thereafter.

He was a disappointment on return in the Greenham at the same venue, but he did look in need of the run. His juvenile form suggests seven furlongs will really suit him in time and his sole run on soft ground was that placed effort in the Morny.

On his juvenile form, he has a huge chance in this contest. Richard Fahey has won two of the last five renewals of the Jersey and the stable has hit form at the perfect time. Back on a softer surface, with a good test of stamina, he should be coming into the argument in the dying stages.

5.35 Ascot – Golden Gates Stakes

Winning two of his three starts thus far, the best should be yet to come from IRISH LEGEND (20-1). Hugo Palmer’s charge won both his juvenile starts, including a debut victory on softer ground at Nottingham.

That helps with any concerns surrounding the softer surface and although he was last in the Classic Trial on return at Sandown, he left that behind when scoring at Newcastle in the first-time cheekpieces. He won by just a head, but he only does what is required and always travelled like much the best horse.

He’s now three pounds higher in a much stronger race, but his better days are surely ahead. The blinkers now replace the cheekpieces, which is very interesting, and the booking of Colin Keane is another positive.

He has the perfect racing style for this sort of race and he’ll likely be travelling best of all as they move into the straight. His mark has been saved by his tendency to hold something back and I think he’s got a big handicap in him off 90.
