‘One last pot is on the cards’ – 14-1 tip for Saturday’s big handicap at Kempton 🥇

Saturday marks one of the last Cheltenham trial fixtures and there’s a quality meeting at Kempton. One of the big races on the card is the prestigious Coral Trophy which is worth a whopping £150,000. Won by the mighty Desert Orchid in the past, it’s always an excellent race to win. Liam Bramall has found a 14-1 shot who looks set to take his chance and could scoop the large prize.

3.00 Kempton (Saturday)

Frodon (14-1, bet365) isn’t getting any younger these days and the drop into handicap company should suit. 11-years-old now, I believe one last major pot could be on the cards.

It was a fair effort in the King George two starts ago, the faller at the last left him in third place. Ahoy Senor was 15 lengths behind him that that day and he went on to win the Grade 2 Cotswold Chase at Cheltenham next time. Paul Nicholls’ much loved gelding also ran in that race but didn’t get home in the soft ground.

Clearly well suited to this course and distance, Frodon won the King George back in 2020. Although his age is catching up with him, he retains plenty of ability but perhaps not enough for those graded chases anymore. This handicap race should suit, despite retaining a high enough rating of 161.

Regular partner Bryony Frost is set to take the ride again and the pair have already won a handicap this season. Frodon won the Badger Beers Chase at Wincanton on seasonal debut by two-and-a-half lengths, off a mark of 158. His current rating wouldn’t have stopped him that day and he has every chance of returning to the Kempton winners’ enclosure here.
