There’s a substantial gamble underway at York on Sunday morning. One runner was available at 20-1 last night but has seen its price collapse through the morning. Whilst one firm is standing alone in offering a double-figure price of 10-1, some are offering odds as skinny as 5-1. This sustained market support could be worth keeping an eye on as there are no signs of it waning. The gamble comes in the £25,000 6f handicap at 2.20. Parisiac (10-1, bet365) will be looking to bounce back after a disappointing effort at Thirsk last time out. Bryan Smart’s three-year-old gelding won at Doncaster three starts ago off a 3lb lower mark. Improvement looks needed if he is to return to the winners’ enclosure as the form of that win hasn’t worked out very well.
There is plenty of scope for improvement however as he’s very lightly raced with just six career starts to his name. Three of those starts have come in handicaps so he should still be learning the job. This does look like a competitive race which is significantly stronger than the one at Thirsk when last seen.
His two-year-old career got off to the best possible start when winning a Pontefract novice event on debut and beating the Coventry Stakes runner-up. He then finished fourth to the very useful Flaming Rib in a Listed race at Doncaster with the second boosting the form by winning its next start.
With the substantial and sustained nature of this gamble, it seems likely that there will be plenty of interest in the outcome and it’ll be fascinating to see how the horse gets on.
