‘No one rides Cheltenham better’ – Davy Russell has four big chances on Friday

Davy Russell

Since the retirements of Ruby Walsh and Barry Gerraghty, there’s a strong case to be made that no other jockey rides Cheltenham better than Davy Russell. Russell comes over to Prestbury Park on Friday with a particularly strong book of rides. All four mounts are for Gordon Elliott and this pair are always dangerous, especially here. It would be a huge shock if Russell was to return to Ireland empty-handed. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

2.10 Cheltenham

Ash Tree Meadow has had a busy summer and racked up six chase starts already. That experience will stand him in good stead at a notoriously tricky jumping track like Cheltenham. Three of those starts have resulted in victory, the most recent one coming at Killarney by a margin of six lengths. His fourth in the Galway Plate was a great effort and he must have a huge chance here.

2.45 Cheltenham

Music Drive was a useful bumper horse last season. He was second to a useful Mullins horse on debut before winning at Naas next time. Wasn’t disgraced when eighth of 20 in the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham either. Shed his maiden tag at the first time of asking in good style at Galway earlier this month and there will be plenty more to come.

3.20 Cheltenham

Tullybeg has some very strong form over fences in his seven starts over the larger obstacles. This includes a comfortable five-and-a-half-length victory over subsequent Grade 3-winner Authorized Art in June. Finished fifth at this meeting last year off 140 over hurdles and should be dangerous here over fences and off a 1lb lower mark.

5.05 Cheltenham

It’s hard to know what to expect from An Mhi here but the fact that he’s been sent to Cheltenham does suggest there’s some confidence. This twice-raced pointer could have run in any maiden hurdle in Ireland yet he makes the long trip over to Cheltenham. Improved from his first point-to-point start and finished second next time. Makes his rules debut here and a big effort is presumably expected.
