Newmarket tips on Saturday: three horses who will love good to firm

The ground at Newmarket is forecast to be good to firm, so let’s look for a few horses who will appreciate a quick surface. 2.25 Newmarket

Cherry Blossom might not have as sexy a profile as some of the others in the race but she has good experience and that can count for a lot under Ryan Moore. She was only beaten a length by Relief Rally at York on fast ground and only found a potential monster too good in the Goffs Million at the Curragh last week. She is good value.

3.00 Newmarket

Karl Burke has his horses in terrific form and Elite Status is another who will love a fast surface in the Group 1 Middle Park. He disappointed in a French Group 1 when last seen but there was juice in the ground that day. He won a Sandown Listed event on fast ground by five lengths in May and was a good third in the Norfolk on good to firm too. He is too big a price.

3.40 Newmarket

Top weight Astro King loves a sound surface and has been in good form of late, finishing second in the John Smith’s Cup in July before winning a nice prize race at York at the Ebor meeting. Winning high-class handicap from a mark of 107 is no easy task but he arrives here in great order.
