New Year’s Day gamble unfolds as horse backed from 20-1 into 9-2 at Fairyhouse

Our resident horse racing man Adrian Wall has always been an avid market watcher. He has spotted a pretty large ongoing gamble taking place at Fairyhouse Racecourse today. Are connections trying to pay for the Christmas shenanigans? Our free horse racing tips are also available every single day and we have been in good form the past month. Let’s take a closer look at the big gamble in more detail below.

1.15 Fairyhouse

Running in the competitive extended 2m4f handicap hurdle, the horse in question is PAY LATER, who has been smashed in the betting from a high of 20-1 last night into top price 9-2 now, and the money is still coming for this lad.

The 11-year-old has only raced five times under rules in his career so has clearly had some major issues in the past, but now having his first run for Jonathan Sweeney, someone out there feels he is miles ahead of the handicapper.

Sweeney doesn’t have many runners and only saddled 19 runners in total in 2023, resulting in six winners which is a really healthy return.

Grade 1-winning rider Michael O’Sullivan is an eyecatching booking aboard this runner. He is two winners from five when riding for Sweeney, a trainer who is three winners from six runners at the track.

Pay Later finished sixth of 25 behind the classy Hunters Yarn in a Naas maiden hurdle last January, which on the bare face of it could make him about a stone well in here if that form can be translated to handicap company.

He has been off the track since last January, but clearly he must be fancied to finally pay his way today.
