H D McGuigan is a mysterious new Irish trainer who has had just four runners at Dundalk so far. It could be significant that they send their first two runners to Britain in a double raid at Wolverhampton on Tuesday. Letterkenny in County Donegal to Wolverhampton and back is a 745-mile round trip so connections will be looking for some compensation. This raid on British shores could open up new avenues of opportunity for the rookie trainer. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Tanseeq finished fourth of 11 on his debut for McGuigan at Dundalk last month. The eight-year-old seemed to need the run, on his first start for 147 days. With that in mind, he should be a bit sharper this time around. He drops into a very low grade race here and that should help. This horse hasn’t won since scoring twice for William Haggas in November 2017 and April 2018. Perhaps coming back to Britain can inspire a return to the winners’ enclosure but it’s been an awfully long time since he’s got his head in front.
Beleaguerment also runs in a Classified Stakes race but has managed to get his head in front much more recently than his stablemate. McGuigan’s charge scored for James McAuley off a mark of 48 back in October. Beaten by four lengths on his sole start this year, he makes his debut for this yard. It’s hard to know what to expect here but if returning to the level of form shown when winning in October, he could well be there or thereabouts.
