Monster gamble: handicap debutant backed into 9-1 from 80-1 at Sligo 😱

There’s a monumental gamble underway at Sligo on Tuesday as one runner has been the subject of sustained market support on handicap debut. The horse in question hasn’t shown so much thus far but it seems significant that the money comes for him here. It would appear that someone knows something with regards to this horse. It’s certainly an interesting gamble which is worth keeping an eye on throughout the day. Having opened up at 80-1, he’s as short as 9-1 but is available at 12-1.

Sligo’s evening meeting is also significant for another reason, as Facile Vega’s sister makes her debut in the bumper. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

Cullenwaine (9-1, Paddy Power) has had four starts over hurdles so far and is yet to show us much. Perhaps his best effort so far came at Wexford back in September. He finished around 11 lengths behind the useful Magical Zoe, which is the closest he has come. Having pulled up on hurdles debut, his other two completed starts resulted in substantial defeats, by a combined total of 91 lengths.

Making his handicap debut here, there is potential for significant improvement. It could also be significant that he’ll be fitted with cheekpieces for this excursion, as these could facilitate progress if helping him to concentrate.

The market support is continuing to come for this horse and his price is only going one way. It would appear that Cullenwaine has plenty to find but his previous starts probably only served the purpose of getting him a mark. Now that he has one we may well see what he’s made of and the market is strongly supporting that notion currently.
