Monster gamble alert: Class dropper smashed from 14-1 into 7-1 at Newcastle

Our resident horse racing expert Adrian Wall has always been an avid market watcher. He has spotted a pretty large ongoing gamble taking place in the 7.00pm at Newcastle racecourse tonight.

Can Paddy Power sting Paddy Power?

When you see the money coming for a Richard Fahey trained runner, you stand up and take notice. He is an extremely shrewd trainer but can be impossible to follow. This is due to the sheer volume of runners he has in his yard.

Running in the 7.00pm at Newcastle tonight, the familiar horse Paddy Power will take his chance. He was never put into the race at Lingfield last time out, always in rear but finished well and was only beaten three lengths.

That was a Class 5 contest and he now drops down into Class 6 company. Keep in mind that last September, this horse was running in a Class 2 handicap at Ayr off a rating of 72. He will run off 60 tonight against very average horses.

Interestingly, the last time he tasted success was here over course and distance in November 2019. That was in a Class 4 contest off a rating of 77. Effectively, he is now running off a 17 pounds lower mark tonight.

This is the easiest race that the horse has ever had in his career on paper so it is a surprise that he opened up 14-1 last night. The shrewd folk are on but there is still some juice in the price.
