Michael Buckley reveals the most likely plan for Constitution Hill this coming season 🗣️

Constitution Hill is an absolute superstar and is unbeaten in seven starts under rules. This includes a nine-length demolition job in the Champion Hurdle back in March. There has been some uncertainty about the plan for him next season. The idea of going chasing with a future tilt at the Gold Cup has been suggested. ‘I don’t see him going two-mile chasing’

The only target that could tempt Buckley into going over fences is a future shot at chasing’s greatest prize, the Cheltenham Gold Cup. Winning the Arkle or Champion Chase wouldn’t be tempting enough. He said: “We need to feel sure that the horse will stay three miles to make the switch. I don’t see much point in going from hurdles to two-mile chasing. He’s exceptional at what he does and inevitably chasing is a tiny bit more dangerous.”

‘He’d be the greatest hurdler ever’

Only five horses have won the Champion Hurdle three times and the idea of staying over hurdles in order to make history is an attractive proposition to Buckley. He added: “A dream of trying to win the Cheltenham Gold Cup is fantastic but on the other hand, if he could win the Champion Hurdle again at seven, eight and nine, he’d be the greatest hurdler there’s ever been, at least in the record books because no one has ever won it four times.”

Whatever the final decision may be, it’s sure to be an exciting season ahead for the jump racing’s biggest star. It’s likely that there will be plenty of Grade 1 races on the agenda, whether it’s over hurdles or fences.
