Lorna Fowler sends two horses on the 560-mile round trip to Carlisle on Thursday

It has been a decent start to the season for Lorna Fowler with three winners on the board and it has to be very interesting that she sends two horses all the way to Carlisle Racecourse on Thursday, a lengthy 560-mile round trip from her base in Rahinston in Ireland. This is the trainers’ first visit to the track which could be a clue in itself. You can check out our free horse racing tips for the day on the site now.

1.20 Carlisle

Skip Mahler is Fowler’s first runner of the day in the conditional jockey’s handicap hurdle over 2m4f. The son of Mahler finished second at Downpatrick from a mark of 97 when last seen this month, but a more galloping track could suit. The main concern for this horse is the fact his revised British mark is a good deal higher, and he will have to run off 106 in this. Whether he is up to winning off this mark, who knows, but he is lightly raced still.

2.25 Carlisle

Sporting the familiar Colonel Mustard colours, Recoded is probably the more interesting runner of the Fowler pair. This son of Kodiac finished third behind a well backed Charles Byrnes trained runner at Ayr in a bumper in April. Recoded travelled powerfully through his race on the day and will no doubt turn into a nice prospect over hurdles. He should not lack for flat speed so if he has been working well over hurdles at home, and jumps well here, he must hold solid enough claims in what does look like a winnable race on paper.
