Lethal Cartmel jockey & trainer combination can strike with two horses on Friday

Cartmel Racecourse

Based in the beautiful village of Cartmel in the Lake District, James Moffatt Racing likes to target his local track. His record at Cartmel Racecourse speaks for itself and he sends two runners there on Friday.

Cartmel is a real front runners track so it generally pays to follow horses who like to take the race by the scruff of the neck. Moffatt has mastered that in training his horses.

The trainer has sent 11 runners to the track this season resulting in five winners. That is an incredible 45 per cent strike-rate to date and he looks set to enhance it on Friday.

It is also worth mentioning the talented rider Charlotte Jones. She has ridden four winners from her last seven rides at the track and will ride both runners on Friday.

The Steward is first up for the pair in what is a Class 4 handicap hurdle ran over 2m1f. He ran well for a long way over course and distance this month but has been dropped 4lb for that effort. Charlotte Jones takes off a further 5lb so the horse is effectively 9lb lower here. He stole a jumper’s bumper from the front at Newcastle in February, winning the race by 13 lengths. A winner over course and distance off 110 in the past and placed here off 114, he looks too well treated to ignore off 102.

Alqamar looks like a penalty kick for the team and really should win the finale. A very useful type on the Flat, he is a nippy type that is well suited to a sharp track like Cartmel. He proved that when running out an 11-length winner over course and distance under this rider this month, making all. It looks like a match between him and the Olly Murphy-trained San Fermin but the Moffatt runner has the edge.
