Legendary Mick Easterby bids for 12-1 birthday treat at Wolverhampton

Mick Easterby

One of the sports legendary trainers, Mick Easterby turns 90 today! Saddling 2,411 winners in an incredible career that has spanned 60 years, he’ll be hoping to enjoy a birthday winner on Tuesday. He is represented by just one runner and they’re priced up at tempting odds of 12-1 with Virgin Bet.

We’ll have horse racing tips for all of today’s action, including a 10-1 NAP of the Day, but we’ll be silently rooting for Easterby in the last of the day, who most certainly deserves a birthday treat. Birthday Bonanza?

Bombardier Handicap (Class 5)

The horse tasked with providing Mick with the perfect present is Bankawi, a four-year-old daughter of Coach House. A dual winner in her career thus far, she gained the most recent success back in June 2020. Although disappointing on the turf in four subsequent starts last summer, she’s been rejuvenated by the switch to the All-Weather this winter.

Wolverhampton clearly suits this filly, who has placed on all three of her course and distance visits. She went down by just a length to start her Synthetic campaign, with a slow start ultimately costing her. That effort can be upgraded, given that it paid to be prominent that day, and she almost made amends when running on into third two weeks later.

Luck was against her once again last time. Leading heading into the final furlong, she was collared in the dying strides by a well-treated runner returning to form. Reliable and clearly thriving, the handicapper has dropped her a pound since that most recent near-miss.

Perhaps more crucially, seven-pound claimer William Pyle takes over in the plate. Pyle taking a significant burden off his mounts back could make all the difference, especially in a race that will be run to suit. Drawn well in stall one, she’s likely to be prominent throughout and just like her trainer, she deserves some luck on a special day!
